Configuring Delivery Dates
This article explains how to set delivery dates via the warehouse settings in the Paazl web app. These variables help determine the delivery dates that Paazl sends to your webshop for display during the checkout process.
Note
Paazl will only calculate the delivery date if the carrier does not provide one. The full set of variables and where you can edit them is explained in in "How Paazl calculates delivery dates".
About the "Warehouse settings" page
On the "Warehouse settings" page, you can configure your warehouse's opening hours, cut-off times, special days (also referred to as "Warehouse business days"), and settings related to carrier pick-up days ("Carrier pick-up days").
Warehouse business days
The warehouse business days allow you to select the days of the week when your warehouse is generally open. If there are days when the warehouse is (partially) closed that deviate from the default settings, you can include them as special days.
Example
- The warehouse is open from Monday to Friday and on Sunday.
- The warehouse is also open for PostNL on the Saturday after Black Friday, but only from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This Saturday is designated as a pick-up day.
Note: Do not forget to also add this extra pick-up day in the 'Special dates' calendar.
Carrier pick-up days
When contracting the services of a particular carrier, you specify the days on which the carrier picks up shipments from your warehouse. If a carrier offers a variety of shipping options, all with the same pick-up days and cut-off times, Paazl allows you to group them efficiently under the same shipping option group.
If a carrier has a shipping option with an exception, you can use the 'Add Rule' function to configure different pick-up days and cut-off times for that specific shipping option.
Example
- The warehouse has a contract with PostNL that includes shipping options for standard pick-ups on Monday to Saturday at 6 p.m. This also includes an additional pick-up on Sunday at 3 p.m.
- The warehouse also has a contract with DHL Express. The cut-off time for DHL Express is 3 p.m.
How Paazl calculates delivery dates
The information below explains all the factors that Paazl takes into account when calculating the delivery date of a parcel. Below, you'll see a flowchart showing how Paazl combines all these factors.
Formula variables
Paazl first determines the earliest possible date a carrier can pick up the shipment, based on the address details entered by your customer and the time needed to prepare the order for pick-up. Then, it adds the expected number of days required for delivery to calculate the definite delivery date.
The time needed to get a shipment ready for pick-up depends on:
- The days of the week your warehouse is open ("Warehouse working day")
- The latest time a customer can place an order on any given working day ("Cut-off time")
- The time required for the warehouse to prepare the product for shipment ("Processing days")
The time needed for delivery depends on:
- The carrier's pick-up day ("Pick-up day")
- The time it will take the carrier to transport the shipment ("Delivery days")
- The days of the week the carrier delivers shipments ("Delivery day")
- Whether the customer has selected a specific delivery time range, such as morning, afternoon, or evening ("Delivery time range")
These variables can all be configured in Paazl and are used to explain the delivery date calculation logic in the flowchart below.
Flowchart
Paazl combines all the various factors affecting the delivery date in a series of logical steps, as outlined in the diagram below. Each step in the flowchart has a number which corresponds to a number in the key at the end of this article. The key entries explain how to configure the delivery date variable concerned.
